Basic Troubleshooting
Restart your Device
A lot of issues are easily resolved by simply restarting your iPhone or iPod Touch. If you are having problems, try this first.
Redownload and Reinstall the Application
If restarting doesn’t help, you may want to try re-downloading the application and installing it again. If you want to remove it from your device first, just be aware that removing an application will delete application data for good.
Delete & duplicate a screen, an icon, an object...
Tap to select an object, then tap again to display the menu popover with the delete/duplicate options. Note that you can’t delete an object that has been locked.
Quit play mode - Stop the preview
Double tap with two fingers to quit the preview of a mockup. That’s it.
The delete option is missing
To solve this problem, reboot your iPad to clean up the memory. This bug sometimes occurs when many Apps are running in the background. However it’s not specific to App Cooker as it happens with a lot of Apps made by others than us!
I am stuck in play mode
Double tap with two fingers to display the exit option.
Renaming projects, screens, icons...
To rename a project you have to be on App Cooker’s home screen. Simply tap the name of the project to change it. It works the same way for screens, icons, etc… Note that the split keyboard of the iPad is not supported in all interfaces inside App Cooker.
Selecting multiple objects with a selection box
To select multiple objects at the same time, put your finger on an empty area and hold it for 1 second. Then start dragging a selection box. All the objects that are not locked will be selected.
I can't export my files over Dropbox or Box!!!
If the export to Dropbox is not working, you will have to plug your iPad to your Mac/PC. Export your project to iTunes, then go inside the file sharing options for Apps (in iTunes) and take the file from here. You will then have to put it manually inside your Dropbox. Exporting large project files directly to Dropbox may not be the best approach. A “big” project can be a 20 screens iPhone app with HD pics on portrait and landscape or a 50 screens iPad app with wireframed interfaces. For now, when dealing with big projects, go through iTunes folders (it’s clunky but it works.)
iTunes file sharing, App Cooker & App Taster
To find your project in iTunes, plug your iPad to your Mac/PC and launch iTunes. On the left sidebar, click on the iPad in the Device section. The main window then refreshes and shows general info about your iPad. At the top, different options are available: “Summary”, “Info”, “Apps”, and others. Click on “Apps”. The main window now displays new contents. Scroll down to the bottom, you should see a “File Sharing” title. Below are two boxes: on the left are the Apps that support file sharing through iTunes, and on the right, what’s inside those Apps. App Cooker should be on top of this left-hand list. Click on it and you’ll find your exported project.
Important: App Cooker and App Taster don’t share the same folder in iTunes. If you want to test App Cooker projects exported as App Taster projects, you will have to either send it to yourself through an email or manually move the file from App Cooker’s folder in iTunes to App Taster’s.
App Cooker doesn't export code or Xcode projects
App Cooker doesn’t export code. The main reason is that every App has specific content and even if App Cooker can gather 90% of this content, when exporting the code, you would have to plug the 10% that’s left. Everytime you’d make a change, you’d have to code and code again. Furthermore, Apple is clearly against this feature.
My language is not listed in the App Store Assistant
App Cooker lets you create and localize the device name, App Store name, keywords and description in the languages available in iTunes connect and only in those. If your language is not in App Cooker, it means that you won’t be able to localize the App Store description in this language. Note that the App itself can be in a language that is not available on the App Store.
Why are there restrictions on some UI elements?
We want App Cooker to be a link between developers and designers. The first thing to do is to use a common language. App Cooker is based on Xcode limitations so a designer can quickly know if something will require extra knowledge to develop the feature. We strongly believe in this choice and we hope you will thank us in the end.
What should I do when my mockup is done?
Once your mockup is done, you should try to find a developer and/or a designer if you’re none of the two. Designing and developing an App are two very different processes. The development involves a high level of technical knowledge. If you don’t know how to find these people, please drop us a note in our contact form.
My PNGs have a white background
White background PNGs are created when you import your images through iTunes, “via” iPhoto. For an obscure reason when it imports images with alpha, it creates a flat image with a white background where it’s supposed to be transparent. To solve the problem, use Dropbox or Box services to access folders of assets, or send the images through an email. Saved images won’t have this problem anymore.
Why should I allow App Cooker to use my location when I use images?
The image library component we use is the official one. We don’t need your location and we don’t track your location. The only thing is that we can’t dismiss it, it would be a breach in the iOS development guidelines.
How to transform my standard screen to retina quality?
The new retina display version of App Cooker generates retina screens for all new projects created. For older projects, you’ll have to manually get in and out of each screen to recreate a retina version of the mockup.
Why can't I find my currency?
App Cooker is based on the same constraints as the iTunes Connect website. The fact that the Danish currency isn’t there means that you will be paid in dollars. The countries that have their currencies listed have a fixed price that Apple guarantees over time if the changes are not too big. Therefore, if you want to be in a real scenario, please use dollars for your own estimates.
Can I work on the same file in the cloud?
An App Cooker project cannot be edited by multiple persons at the same time over the cloud. It’s on our to do list, but we have bigger fish to catch.
App Cooker is not a Mac application nor an iPhone App
App Cooker is only running on the iPad. We have plans for other versions in the future.
Why can't I use the real map component?
The real map component is not fully available for technical reasons. We are working on it.
Can I scroll inside a view in preview mode?
In its current state, App Cooker doesn’t support live scrolling. To simulate this, we advise you to create a hit zone at the bottom of the screen, or use a swipe link gesture that will target the “bottom”. Know that we are working on this feature to allow bigger canvas.
How can I get a refund?
We can’t personally make refunds. You have to ask Apple when you receive the iTunes invoice. Please read this post for the complete refund procedure. (Opens Safari)
Do you keep files on your servers?
We will never sniff around inside your projects. Everything you do is stored locally.
Can I export only the mockup?
You can’t send “only” the mockup in App Cooker. What you can do is create an empty icon, empty scenario, empty store info and select those when you share your mockup.
